This top quality chest has a triple panelled lid held by its original wire hinges and with a till. The top rail is carved with tulips and the double panelled front has roundels enclosing two carved tulip flowers and it stands on exceptionally high stile legs which are channel moulded with scratch work decoration as is the base rail and muntin. The back and sides are panelled and the figuring of the timber, colour and patination are outstanding. Hard to say exactly which area it is from but it is almost certainly either Wales or the West Country. Circa 1660. 43 inches wide x 18 1/2 inches deep x 25 inches high.
