Very heavy for its size and extremely tactile, this lovely little mortar is not turned but hewn and dug out. It has the most wonderful rich buttery colour and patination that is common with box wood. It is hard to date but is probably 16th or 17th century. It measures 6 1/2 inches diameter x 5 inches high.
