An early 16th century oak carved group depicting St. Anne with The Virgin Mary seated on her knee holding The Christ Child whilst in her left hand she holds a book with which she is teaching The Virgin to read. Netherlandish, probably Antwerp . See "Netherlandish Sculpture 1450-1550" published by the V&A figure 25 which shows a carved group of very similar style depicting The Virgin fainting at the foot of the cross. It may have been intended to hang on the wall of a private house but it also stands. 13 1/2 inches high x 9 inches wide.
