Circa 1500, this Malines carved oak group retains most of its original polychrome and gilding. St Anne is shown with the typical sweet face and tender posture of Malines carvings and there is lovely movement to figure. For a similar example, see "Netherlandish Sculpture 1450-1550" which is published by the V&A, page 126 where there is illustrated a figure of St Barbara. 18 inches high.
