I buy very few press cupboards these days but this one appealed because of it's small size and fine quality carving. The upper section has a frieze with interlocking stylised lilies and below are a pair of lozenge carved doors with a central panel carved with plant tendrils and a fan shaped flower. The bulbous posts are exceptionally well turned and have lovely rich colour. The base has a carved frieze and a pair of panelled doors. The sides are panelled and the back is boarded. The type and quality of the carving indicate a Somerset origin - see Chinnery pages 414 and 415. Good honey colour throughout. Ex collection of Count and Countess Csaky. 57 inches wide x 22 1/2 inches deep x 62 inches high.
