This impressive chair would certainly have been described as a "Best Chair" when it was constructed circa 1840 probably in the Worksop area. The makers used the best quality yew wood and included details such as a burr yew Christmas tree splat, notches under the arms and a crinoline stretcher. It has a broad elm seat and measures 43 1/2 inches high and the seat height is 18 inches and it is 23 inches across the arms. See Windsor Chairs by Michael Harding-Hill page 107 for a very similar example.
