A very moving carved group depicting The Virgin Mary with the body of Christ across her lap. The face of the Virgin as she looks down to her son is particularly sensitively carved. The carving retains a considerable amount of original polychrome and gilding. Some restoration to Christ's right arm. Aachen area of the Lower Rhine. 21 inches high.
