A VERY SMALL NORTH WALES OAK DRESSER AND RACK

A very small North Wales oak dresser and rack

A fine North Wales dresser and rack from the first quarter of the 18th century. Standing just 52 inches wide on the rack, it has the drop finials that are a hangover from the deuddarn and is very similar to one shown in Fig 589 in Richard Bebb's book "Welsh Furniture". He describes it as being from Merioneth and talks about the high quality joinery and individual detailing of such pieces. A good example of this is the way that the back of the rack is panelled rather than with the usual rough boards. The base has two fielded panel drawers above two doors. Excellent rich colour and patination. 52 1/2 inches wide (on the cornice) x 20 1/2 inches deep x 73 inches high.
