This fine example of a late 16th century Bellarmine jug stands 11 inches high and in addition to the typical bearded mask it has three medaillons and an attractive colour. It also has an interesting provenance having been recently acquired from Dr. Anthony Thwaite who wrote an authoritative article on the Chronology of the Bellarmine Jug in Connoisseur Magazine in April 1973. He bought it in 1969 and it had a label inside stating that it had been found during excavation work on the Old Brewery Site, now the Westminster Hospital.
