With a two inch thick walnut top held by its original iron hinges, the front and sides are in oak profusely carved with Gothic blind tracery, this coffret has a wonderful untouched finish and apart from an associated bottom board is in original condition. Although probably French, it is possible that it is English - a chest with similar carving can be seen in Little Waldingfield Church,Suffolk. It measures 36 inches wide (also a possible indication that is English) x 16 inches deep x 13 1/2 inches high.
