A mid 16th century oak boarded chest, the front with superb chip-carved decoration incorporating two roundels surrounded by deep cavities of triangular form (see Chinnery page 179 for a discussion on this technique). The ends with V cut-outs. The spandrels later. Probably Northamptonshire circa 1540. 40 inches wide x 13 1/2 inches deep x 20 1/2 inches high.
