Probably intended for use in a domestic setting, an early 18th century elm carved plaque retaining its original paint. The moulded edge and shape are similar to the style that one sees on Dutch delft wall plaques. It is deeply carved with a central niche depicting The Virgin Mary surrounded foliage and flowers including a carnation at the top and a red painted tulip on the right. 10 1/2 inches x 9 1/2 inches.
