A SMALL OAK BUFFET WITH AN EXCELLENT PROVENANCE.

A small late Elizabethan/early James oak buffet with a pair of recessed cupboard doors decorated with fine arcaded carving on either side of a similar blind panel, a pair of turned posts and a long drawer with gadrooned carving (see Chinnery Fig 3:79 for a stool which he dates to 1575 with very similar carving including the central leaf motif). Below there are a further pair of posts and a potboard. Excellent colour and fine carving throughout. Probably Somerset circa 1600. Provenance : recently acquired from a gentleman whose father bought it in 1937 for £165 (more than the average annual wage in those days) from the well respected BADA dealers H.M. Lee. It is sold with the original receipted invoice and photograph. 46 inches wide x 16 1/2 inches deep x 47 1/2 inches high.
