An early Elizabethan oak library table.

An extremely rare form of Elizabethan table, intended for standing at and reading. The mitred top above rails with spandrels on all four sides, the bold legs with very unusual turnings and with peripheral stretchers. Other known examples of this form of table include one in The Kederminster Library and another in Chastleton. A similar form of leg can be seen on an altar table illustrated on pages 114 and 115 of "The English Smile. English Furniture and The Renaissance 1490-1590" where it is dated as 1540-1550. Lovely untouched colour and condition. 42 inches x 32 inches across the top x 36 inches high.
