An impressive Thames Valley comb back armchair.

Dating from about 1770, this generously proportioned armchair has many of the features associated with the Thames Valley Windsor chair makers, John Pitt and Richard Hewitt. It has a yoke shaped crest rail, a vasiform splat, a very broad seat and four cabriole legs, the rear legs with an accentuated rake. It is constructed in fruitwood, ash and elm. Two very similar chairs sold in January 2019 - one at Bonhams which fetched over £8000 and the other at Dukes which cost over £6500. 41 1/2 inches high and the seat is 17 inches high and 24 inches wide.
