This charming dog is probably a talbot, along with the greyhound the only dog to be used in English heraldry. The hound may have been one of a pair and used in some form of memorial group, it peers pensively upward as if in adoration or sadness. It retains most its original painted decoration which includes a gilt collar. Probably English the latter half of the 16th century. 14 1/ inches high.
