This lovely walnut panel dates to the first quarter of the 16th century and is almost certainly based on a 15th century Flemish painting of the subject. On the left, The left the Angel Gabriel stands holding a scroll and a sceptre tipped with a lily, in the centre is a vase filled with lilies and inscribed MARIA and on the right the Virgin Mary kneels at a desk which is decorated with punchwork fleur-de-lis symbols. Probably French circa 1520. 22 inches x 8 inches.
