A very unusual and rare pair of primitive forms or benches dating to the end of the 18th century. They have 2 1/2 inch thick ash tops with excellent figuring to the timber and four legs which are wedged through the tops. Despite being clearly a pair and made from the from timber from the same tree, the legs have slightly different profiles. There are traces of green paint to the undersides. West Country or Wales circa 1790. Each 53 inches x 9 1/2 inches across the top x 18 1/2 inches high.
