This stunning armchair dates to about 1730 and is a high quality example of English chair making. It is made in Virginian walnut which began to be imported from America in the early 1720s as a result of the removal of import duties. The splat has particularly fine figuring and the detailing to the arms and cabriole legs is superb. The chair is both elegant and extremely comfortable.
