A VERY RARE LATE 17TH CENTURY WEST COUNTRY COFFER.

A very rare late 17th century West Country coffer.

A superb example of a Dorset/Somerset coffer with a plank top held by its original hinges, panelled back and sides and with an internal till. The rails and muntins to the front are decorated with incised leaf shapes, picked out in black and red paint. The three panels are decorated with a similar technique but with a starburst tulip pattern. The condition of the paintwork is untouched. 46 1/2 inches wide x 19 inches deep x 25 1/5 inches high.
