These large dishes are sometimes depicted in Renaissance art and were used to impress guests at major ceremonies such as weddings because of their size and opulent decoration. This example dates to about 1680 and is decorated in polychrome with typical Renaissance ornament and centrally a young man playing a stringed instrument. Excellent untouched condition. 17 1/4 inches diameter.
