This lovely little bellarmine jug is probably a very rare English example of these quite common jugs. The slip has very little tiger glaze in it and base has not been cut off with a wire as is usually seen on Continental examples. In addition to the usual bellarmine mask, it has another rudimentary face medallion. Potters in England who are thought to have been native manufacturers of bellarmines include John Dwight, Abraham Rous and Thomas Cullen. 8 1/4 inches high.
